About DKW

DKW was a German car and motorcycle marque. DKW was one of the four companies that formed Auto Union in 1932 and thus became an ancestor of the modern-day Audi company. In 1916, Danish engineer Jørgen Skafte Rasmussen founded a factory in Zschopau, Saxony, Germany, to produce steam fittings. About This Footage

The 1956 DKW 2-seat convertible, showcased in this 1:22 minute photo slideshow, is a rare and intriguing example of coach-built automotive innovation. This footage provides an exclusive look at the factory's bespoke craftsmanship, highlighting the attention to detail and expertise that went into creating such a unique vehicle.

DKW, as a marque, has a rich history dating back to its formation in Germany in 1928. As one of the founding members of Auto Union in 1932, DKW played a significant role in shaping the automotive landscape of post-war Europe. The company's commitment to innovative design and engineering is evident in this convertible, which showcases the brand's ability to push boundaries and experiment with new ideas.

The fact that this vehicle was coach-built by the factory makes it all the more remarkable. Coach-building, as a craft, requires an exceptional level of skill and artistry, involving not only technical expertise but also a deep understanding of aesthetics and design principles. The DKW's convertible bodywork is a testament to the factory's ability to balance form and function, creating a vehicle that is both visually stunning and mechanically sound.

One cannot help but be struck by the contrast between this sleek, high-performance convertible and the more conventional offerings from other manufacturers at the time. While many car enthusiasts may be familiar with the likes of Jaguar or Ferrari, the DKW 2-seat convertible stands out as a true oddity – a one-off creation that showcases the brand's willingness to take risks and challenge conventional norms.

The photo slideshow itself is an engaging and informative way to experience this unique vehicle. The images provide a detailed look at the car's design features, from its sleek lines and curved contours to its bespoke interior appointments. Each frame offers a new perspective on the DKW 2-seat convertible, inviting viewers to linger over the intricate details and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into creating this extraordinary vehicle.

In an era where mass-produced cars dominated the market, the DKW's coach-built convertible represents a refreshing departure from the norm. Its very existence serves as a reminder of the ingenuity and creativity that defined the automotive industry in the mid-20th century. As such, this footage is not only a fascinating glimpse into automotive history but also a testament to the enduring power of innovation and design excellence.
