1959 Classic Mini Reborn in Holland
A classic Mini found in a barn last year has now been fully restored, at the VDL Nedcar MINI plant in Holland. Chassis number 983 was one of the very first Minis to be assembled in the Netherlands and is also one of the oldest remaining examples anywhere in the world. The engine and gearbox received a total overhaul, with body parts and door panels being rebuilt by hand. A combination of original and replica parts were used to return the Mini to its former glory. VDL Nedcar was an automotive manufacturing company in Born, Netherlands. It was the largest automotive factory in the country, with a production capacity of 240,000 vehicles a year. VDL Nedcar was closed in March 2024 because the contract with BMW Group was not renewed. The company had its origins in a DAF car factory which opened in 1968.
