About De Tomaso

De Tomaso Automobili Ltd. (previously known as De Tomaso Modena SpA) is an Italian car-manufacturing company. It was founded in 1959 by Alejandro de Tomaso in Modena. It originally produced various sports prototypes and auto racing vehicles, including a Formula One car for Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1970. Most of the automaker's funding came from Amory Haskell Jr. In 1971, Ford Motor Company acquired an 84 percent stake in De Tomaso, with Alejandro de Tomaso himself holding the balance. Ford sold back their stake in the automaker in 1974.

De Tomaso — Rare Footage & Clips

The De Tomaso marque is a testament to the ingenuity and passion of Alejandro de Tomaso, who founded the company in 1959 with a vision to create high-performance sports cars that would rival the best from Italy's storied automotive heritage. The early years of De Tomaso were marked by a focus on producing innovative prototypes and racing vehicles, including a notable Formula One car for Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1970.

One of the most iconic models to emerge from De Tomaso's workshop was the Pantera, first introduced in 1971. This sleek and powerful sports car quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional performance and handling, earning it a spot among the pantheon of great Italian sports cars. The Pantera's 351 Ford V8 engine produced an impressive 330 horsepower, making it a formidable competitor on the track.

Our archive features several clips showcasing the De Tomaso Pantera in all its glory. In "1971 De Tomaso Pantera - Jay Leno's Garage," we see the car in action as Jay Leno takes it for a spin around a testing facility. Meanwhile, "De Tomaso P72 2022 vs F1 2021 Cars at Monza GP" offers a more contemporary take on the brand's racing heritage, pitting the modern P72 against some of the world's top Formula One machines.

The Pantera was not the only model to wear the De Tomaso badge, however. The Mangusta, introduced in 1964, was another notable sports car that showcased the company's commitment to innovation and design. This sleek and agile vehicle featured a unique mid-mounted engine layout and a striking fiberglass body, making it an instant hit among enthusiasts.

In "De Tomaso Mangusta VS Pantera," we see these two iconic models go head-to-head in a thrilling hillclimb competition at Alpe del Nevegal. The contrast between the Mangusta's more angular lines and the Pantera's curvaceous profile is striking, highlighting the diversity of De Tomaso's design approach.

The 1970s saw significant changes for De Tomaso, as the company received an injection of capital from Amory Haskell Jr., which allowed it to expand its operations and produce more ambitious projects. This period also saw the introduction of the P72, a hypercar that would go on to become one of the brand's most iconic models.

In "De Tomaso P72 2022 vs F1 2021 Cars at Monza GP," we see the P72 in action alongside some of the world's top racing machines. The car's sleek design and impressive performance make it a worthy competitor, even against the likes of Ferrari and Bugatti.

While De Tomaso may not have achieved the same level of commercial success as some of its Italian counterparts, the company's impact on the automotive world cannot be overstated. Its innovative designs, commitment to racing, and passion for creating exceptional driving experiences have made it a beloved marque among enthusiasts.

Interestingly, De Tomaso's story also intersects with that of Amory Haskell Jr., who played a significant role in funding the company during its early years. While there is no direct connection between De Tomaso and music, it is worth noting that Alejandro de Tomaso was an Argentine-Italian entrepreneur who drew inspiration from his Latin American heritage.

The De Tomaso P72 has become something of a modern icon among car enthusiasts, with its sleek design and impressive performance making it a standout in the world of hypercars. In "De Tomaso P72 2022 VS Ferrari Xezri Concept at Monza GP," we see this remarkable vehicle take on some of the world's most exotic machines.

The legacy of De Tomaso continues to be felt today, with the company's commitment to innovation and design inspiring a new generation of car manufacturers. As we continue to explore the archives, it becomes clear that the story of De Tomaso is one of passion, perseverance, and a unwavering dedication to creating exceptional driving experiences.

In "The MOST BEAUTIFUL MODERN CAR?! DE TOMASO P72 V12 COLD START and DRIVE OFF! Concorso Italiano 2019," we see the P72 in all its glory as it takes to the track at the Concorso Italiano. The sound of its V12 engine is music to the ears, a testament to the brand's commitment to creating exceptional driving experiences.

While De Tomaso may not have achieved widespread commercial success, its impact on the world of sports cars and racing cannot be overstated. As we continue to explore the archives, it becomes clear that this remarkable company has left an indelible mark on the automotive world, inspiring generations of car enthusiasts with its innovative designs, commitment to racing, and passion for creating exceptional driving experiences.
