Cheap to buy, own and run micro cars were fashionable immediately after the war, with manufacturers such as Lloyd, Messerschmitt and the Isetta. Australia too had a few makers, including South Australian concern Lightburn with their Zeta, and ex-GMH boss Hartnett with his own car, and then an adapted Lloyd imported from Germany. Neil Joiner from the Trafalgar Holden Museum explains the history of this small, cheap air-cooled 2 stroke powered "Lloyd-Hartnett" and, despite the popularity of micro cars on the Classic Car scene these days - we agreed we would rather not take to the highway in this one. About Lloyd-Hartnett

Lloyd Motoren Werke G.m.b.H. (Lloyd Engine Works) was a German automobile manufacturer, created in 1908 and owned by the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company. The factory was in Bremen. The company operated under a variety of different names throughout the decades, but their products were nearly always badged with the Lloyd marque.
