The Corvette GM Built By Accident

In 1953, Chevrolet built 300 Corvettes by hand. Every one was white with a red interior, a 150 horsepower six-cylinder sedan engine, a two-speed automatic, no roll-up windows, and no outside door handles. The price was higher than a Cadillac convertible. Fewer than 200 people bought one. By 1955, production collapsed to 700 units and GM was ready to cancel the entire program. The car that would become America's most iconic sports car almost ended after three years because nobody wanted it.
