If you are looking for that authentic Italian roadster feeling, you will find it here: This 1970 Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1600 is a driver's car with charm, top-level technology, and the famous 1608 cc twin-cam engine—a true Aurelio Lampredi classic and the most successful engine in rally history. The car comes from a long-time enthusiast, is a Swiss vehicle, and is in excellent technical condition: the engine and transmission run smoothly and powerfully, the underbody is clean and rust-free, and the chassis and steering are direct and precise. The four-cylinder engine responds willingly to the throttle and delivers the typical feeling of revving that can only be experienced in Italian sports cars of this era. In the 36 years that the sporty Fiat, first registered in Switzerland, has spent with its last owner, it has been very well cared for and always well maintained. In recent years, many new parts have been installed – both in the engine compartment and on the chassis. A small sports steering wheel, original rims with chrome caps, and various spare parts are included. Currently fitted are Abarth Cromodora magnesium rims in matching gold. The red paintwork shows signs of wear commensurate with its age. Although it is very beautiful, it has small blemishes. Those who love the authentic look will appreciate this honest appearance. The interior is well maintained and very beautiful, and the fittings are original – a place to enjoy. This Spider is not a museum piece, but a real collector's vehicle for people who want to drive instead of just polish. A classic for curves, sunny days, and the famous Italian lifestyle on wheels. Designed by Tom Tjaarda for Pininfarina, the Spider combined classic roadster design with modern technology and a sporty character that set it apart from British competitors such as MG and Triumph. It was based on the Fiat 124 sedan's floor pan, but significantly revised. A shorter wheelbase was used for the Spider, a sportier suspension setup was introduced, and the striking design with a long hood and short rear end became its trademark. From the outset, the convertible was conceived as a two-seater with a true sports car heart. A milestone was the installation of the 1608 cm³ DOHC (double overhead camshaft) engine, which powered the 124 Spider 1600 from 1970 onwards. This engine was designed by Aurelio Lampredi, the former Ferrari engineer who made his mark on Fiat with his robust and powerful four-cylinder engines. The 1600 version delivered around 110 hp and propelled the Spider to approximately 185 km/h – a remarkable figure for an open-top vehicle in this class. The engine was usually paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, which was also an innovation – many competitors only offered four gears. In addition, there were four disc brakes, independent suspension, and a fully synchronized transmission – none of which were a given in the early 1970s. Production of the 124 Sport Spider continued until 1985, with the vehicles being officially distributed by Pininfarina itself from 1982 onwards. Nevertheless, the models from the early years – especially those with round instruments, classic bumpers, and the 1600 engine – are considered the most desirable. These cars offer the purest driving experience and are considered the most stylistically balanced. While many vehicles were later tinkered with or eaten away by rust, only a few have survived that are both technically excellent and visually charming. It is precisely those models where the underbody and drive unit were the focus of care that are considered by connoisseurs to be the ideal basis for drivers – or as a starting point for a gentle cosmetic upgrade. The 124 Spider impresses with its balanced weight distribution, crisp steering, lively engine, and pure driving pleasure. It is not loud, not ostentatious, but full of character—making it the perfect vehicle for people who measure style not by the exhaust pipe, but by the smile behind the wheel.
