2020 Ligier JS P320 testing at Monza: LMP3 Gen II w/ Nissan VK56 V8 Engine Sound! — RedlineArchive

In 2019 the ACO announced the new 2nd Generation Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) regulations, with full implementation due by 2021, and to be raced from 2020 to 2024. Onroak Automotive/Ligier Automotive was selected as one of the four chassis manufacturer for these updated rules. Their JS P320 was the first LMP3 Gen II prototype to be unveiled. Compared to the previous Ligier JS P3, the car has a 95% new bodywork, which has been optimised to make the car efficient on all the circuits. In fact its predecessor was released at a time when LMP3 cars were not intended to race on the Circuit de la Sarthe, and as such, the car was less focused on aerodynamic efficiency, leading to have a lower top speed compared to later LMP3 cars. JS P320 also features Ohlins dampers and an adapted cooling system. In addition, as per the new Gen 2 tegulations, traction control has been introduced, while some safety-related changes have been made to the driver's headrest and seat. The old Nissan VK50VE 5.0-litre V8 engine has been replaced on all new LMP3s with the 5.6-litre VK56 V8, which also introduces and increase of power of around 35hp (460hp is now the total power of LMP3s) compared to the 5.0L. The engine is linked to a XTrack 6-speed sequential gearbox.
