SNAKE ISLAND You probably won’t get arrested if you travel to Snake Island, also known as Ilha da Queimada Grande, because you’ll have bigger problems to worry about, and even the police don’t go there, anyway. Snake Island is located off the coast of Brazil near Sao Paulo, and anyone who sets foot on Snake Island isn't risking arrest, they're risking. 6. POVEGLIA ISLAND Poveglia Island is just off the coast of Venice and has a history that is both tragic and dark. When the plague was ravaging Europe, people were desperate to get rid of those who had the highly contagious virus. In Venice, they decided to forcefully relocate plague victims to Poveglia Island, then quarantine it. 5. SISTINE CHAPEL The Sistine Chapel is one of the crown jewels of the Vatican City, of Italy, and even the world. The building’s artwork was done by legendary painters such as Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Pinturicchio, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, as well as various other masterpieces, including The Last Judgment, were painted by Michelangelo. 4. NORTH SENTINEL ISLAND North Sentinel Island is part of the Andaman Islands, an archipelago located in India’s Bay of Bengal. This island is home to a tribe of people called the Sentinelese, who are one of the last surviving pre-Neolithic tribes in the world, as well as one of the few remaining mostly-uncontacted tribes. 3. FORT KNOX Some places are forbidden not because of they’re dangerous, but because of the treasures they hold. Fort Knox is one of the most closely-guarded places in the world, and is a place you should only try to visit if you’re invited. 2. NIIHAU Most of the Hawaiian islands are open for visitors to enjoy. However, the island of Niihau is not one of them. Nicknamed “The Forbidden Island,” Niihau is privately-owned by two gentlemen named Bruce and Keith Robinson, who are descended from the original owners, the Sinclairs. In 1864, the Sinclairs acquired Niihau from King Kamehameha in exchange for $10,000 worth of gold. 1. CHERNOBYL In most cases, entry into Chernobyl is forbidden, due to the radioactive hazards that are present there. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was a fully functioning nuclear plant for about a decade after it was built in 1977.
