BMW is headquartered in Munich Germany and it was established in 1916 initially building aircraft engines in the WW1 but after the Treaty of Versailles banned Germany from manufacture of airplanes BMW converted into an MSC. Booting its motorcycle division in 1923, BMW produced the R32 motorcycle which not only had the first boxer-twin engine layout that would form the identity of BMW motorcycles in the motorcycle market. In the early 1930s, BMW became engaged in automobile production with the BMW 3/15 colloquially known as the “Dixi” which was created based on the Austin 7. This was the beginning of BMW cars’ quality tradition of producing high quality automobiles. However, during the second world War BMW was in deep trouble, but BMW reestablished it self in the automobile industry when it introduced BMW 501; a luxury car in the early ‘50s. The 1960s and 1970s was the time when BMW started to position its brand toward the performance with such cars as the “New Class” sedans and the BMW 2002 which summed up the concept of the brand as “the ultimate driving machine.” The ‘80s witnessed new and more mature shapes, styling and engineering in BMW’s car portfolio, with the arrival of the first generation of the BMW 3 Series, a compact and roomy executive car that was phenomenal in handling and performance for the segment. This decade also brought the creation of the BMW M division, which is the arm that is given the responsibility of creating the BMW’S performance cars from their standard creations. The early 90s continued the rising tendency in production for BMW, since the company has purchased the Rover Group of Britain and Mini brands, as well as the release of the BMW Z3 roadster and the BMW 7 series.
