1976 Honda GL1000 1st start since 1987 Barn Find

9/15/2021 I picked up this 1976 GL1000 in South Beloit, IL last month for $325 with title, no keys. Owner's son said his dad died in 2005 but didn't know the last time it ran. I got a replacement key on ebay. Installed a new battery. No spark. I replaced the coils and plug caps with new and and spark returned. I went through the other electrics. I tore down and cleaned the carburetors. They were totally varnished. I put it back together and at first it flooded. I think it has to run through the fuel pump. Took out the spark plugs and hit start...fuel shot across the garage on both sides 😀 I removed the gravity feed cranked it and a few seconds later I got it started on the remaining fuel in the float bowls. I still need to get tank cleaned, adjust valves, ignition timing and fix exhaust leaks, and do the brakes...but this is a good sign. Stay tuned.
