This video is a virtual comparison between two great De Tomaso, the famous Pantera and a rarer Mangusta; both prepared to compete. We are at the 2017 edition of the Alpe del Nevegal Hillclimb, Belluno, Italy. I've always had an admiration for these fascinating cars when Italian style meets American mechanics. In the rear centre position, on both cars, there are large V8 engines. The Mangusta adopts the 4.7-litre Ford to develop a basic 300hp (obviously enhanced) coupled with a 5-speed manual ZF gearbox. On the Pantera, we find the 5.7-litre Ford Cleveland 351 engine capable of developing over 330hp as standard. Ditching the expensive Mangusta single-beam midframe that many stiffnesses and weight problems had generated in exchange for a cheaper monocoque body for the Pantera will be the latter's winning choice. The car had moderate sales success and an excellent career as a racing car. In the GTS variants, the 500hp for a weight of about 1,200Kg were abundantly exceeded, transforming it into a fast racing car. It was nice to see both models here. I have to thank my friend and Youtuber @19Bozzy92, with whom I collaborated to realise this video. Enjoy! De Tomaso Automobili Ltd. (previously known as De Tomaso Modena SpA) is an Italian car-manufacturing company. It was founded in 1959 by Alejandro de Tomaso in Modena. It originally produced various sports prototypes and auto racing vehicles, including a Formula One car for Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1970. The De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera: A Tale of Italian Style Meets American Muscle In the realm of high-performance vehicles, few names evoke the same level of excitement as De Tomaso's Mangusta and Pantera. This 2017 footage from the Alpe del Nevegal Hillclimb in Belluno, Italy, offers a unique opportunity to witness these two iconic cars in action, pitting their American V8 engines against each other in a thrilling display of speed and agility.
The De Tomaso Mangusta, with its sleek and curvaceous design, is often overshadowed by the more famous Pantera. However, this rarer model has its own distinct charm, particularly when paired with the potent 4.7-liter Ford V8 engine. Developing a base 300 horsepower (obviously enhanced for racing purposes), the Mangusta's powerplant is coupled with a 5-speed manual ZF gearbox, providing a smooth and responsive driving experience.
In contrast, the Pantera boasts an even more impressive 5.7-liter Ford Cleveland 351 engine, capable of producing over 330 horsepower as standard. This behemoth of an engine is paired with a similarly robust transmission, making it a force to be reckoned with on the hillclimb course.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this footage is the comparison between the two cars' design and construction. The Mangusta's single-beam midframe was notorious for its stiffness issues and weight problems, leading many to opt for the Pantera's more conventional monocoque body. This choice ultimately paid off, as the Pantera went on to achieve moderate sales success and an impressive racing career.
The 500-horsepower variants of the Pantera, weighing in at approximately 1,200 kilograms, were a revelation on the track. Their exceptional speed and agility made them a formidable opponent for other racing cars, earning them a reputation as one of the fastest production cars of their time.
This footage from the Alpe del Nevegal Hillclimb provides an intimate look at these two incredible machines in action. Witnessing the Mangusta and Pantera navigate the treacherous hillclimb course is a treat for any car enthusiast, offering a glimpse into the world of high-performance driving. The combination of Italian style and American muscle is on full display here, making this footage a must-see for anyone interested in the world of sports cars.
The collaboration between the creator of this video and YouTuber @19Bozzy92 adds an extra layer of depth to this already fascinating content. Their combined efforts have resulted in a comprehensive and engaging comparison between these two iconic De Tomaso models, providing viewers with a unique perspective on their design, performance, and racing heritage.
In conclusion, this 2017 footage from the Alpe del Nevegal Hillclimb is an absolute treat for car enthusiasts. The De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera are two of the most iconic sports cars in history, and witnessing them in action is a true delight. Whether you're a seasoned racing fan or simply a lover of high-performance vehicles, this footage is sure to captivate and inspire.
