The model is probably the one best remembered today as the predecessor of the famous 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione of the Tour de France. The Ferrari 250 series became the cars that established the Italian automaker as a force to be reckoned with in the global sports car and GT class market. The design of the 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione benefited from the lessons Ferrari learned when creating the 250 MM. That "MM" stands for "Mille Miglia," the legendary public-road race that took place from Brescia to Rome and back, beginning in 1927 and ending in 1957. The name "Berlinetta Competizione" translates directly as "Little Saloon Competition," it essentially means that the car is a hardtop coupe designed for competition. Ferrari developed the 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione on the 250 Europa GT platform. This particular car was originally a silver color and was originally owned by the president of the Milan Automobile Club, Mr. Luigi Bertetta, and had two other owners in Italy before it was sent to a new owner in Athens, Greece in January 1964. Under the hood of the original Ferrari 250, GT Berlinetta Competizione was a 3.0-liter atmospheric V12 power unit with 284 horsepower.
