In 1977, the Panther 6 appeared with six wheels, an 8.2-liter Cadillac V8, twin turbochargers, and an extraordinary promise: more than 600 horsepower and a top speed beyond 200 mph. It was supposed to challenge Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. Instead, only two examples were ever completed. Created by British designer and entrepreneur Robert Jankel, the Panther 6 was inspired by the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 Formula One car. It combined four steerable front wheels, a massive Cadillac Eldorado powertrain, limousine-level luxury, digital instrumentation, built-in telephones, and styling that looked decades ahead of its time. But behind the spectacular design were serious problems: unusual tire requirements, difficult weight distribution, production delays, financial trouble, and performance claims that were never independently proven. In this video, you’ll discover: • Why Robert Jankel created the Panther 6. • How the Tyrrell P34 inspired its six-wheel layout. • Why it used a Cadillac Eldorado V8. • How Ak Miller developed its twin-turbo system. • The truth behind the claimed 600 horsepower. • Why the 200-mph top speed was never proven. • Its extraordinary luxury equipment. • Why it cost more than a Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. • How tire shortages and financial problems killed the project. • What happened to the only two known cars. • Why the Panther 6 remains unforgettable nearly fifty years later.
