Up for auction on www.wheelprice.com, is a piece of motorsport history: a BBS RE407 die-forged magnesium front wheel used on the 1998 Tyrrell 026 Formula One car; the final car built by the iconic Tyrrell Racing Organization before its transition into British American Racing (BAR). This wheel, internally coded by BBS as RE407, was engineered to meet the extreme performance demands of Formula One. Crafted from lightweight forged magnesium alloy, the wheel features a center lock design and 12.85” width and 13” diameter, optimized for quick pit stops and rigidity. BBS, a trusted name in motorsports, supplied wheels to several top teams during the era, including Ferrari and others. This exact model was custom-designed for the suspension and aerodynamic configuration of the 026. The Tyrrell 026 debuted at the 1998 Australian Grand Prix and competed throughout the season with drivers Toranosuke Takagi and Ricardo Rosset at the helm. This particular wheel model was featured during the official launch of the car, which was documented in the 1998 Tyrrell unveiling event as shown in the video below, and has since appeared on restored examples at events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed and in the EuroBOSS series. This auction directly supports The Piston Foundation, a nonprofit organization on a mission to preserve car culture by funding skilled trade education and apprenticeships in classic car restoration and automotive craftsmanship. The foundation’s goal is to ensure that the next generation of restoration specialists continues the legacy of hands-on automotive artistry. Every dollar from this sale will help young enthusiasts pursue careers in the collector car industry. The winning bidder will receive a certificate of authenticity, signed by the President of BBS. For collectors, motorsport fans, and supporters of the next generation of automotive technicians, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of racing history while investing in a great cause.

There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808.
