After studying engineering at the Mittweida Technical College, he worked in shipbuilding and later for Karl Benz's company, gaining invaluable experience. In 1899, he founded A. Horch & Cie, but due to financial disputes, he left and established August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH in 1909. Legal issues forced him to change the company's name to Audi, derived from the Latin translation of his surname, meaning "listen." Audi would go on to become one of the most respected names in the automotive world.
