Toyota Prado Adventure review (NZ): retro looks, real 4x4, mild-hybrid diesel

We put the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Adventure through its paces in New Zealand. This spec sits near the top of the Prado range and mixes old-school 4x4 hardware with a 48V mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel (150kW/500Nm). On road, the ride is firm but comfy; the engine is grunty but a bit noisy. Off road you get low-range, centre diff lock, a detachable front sway bar, terrain modes and crawl, plus 360° cameras — the useful stuff. Practical touches include roof rails, solid side steps, JBL audio, heaps of USB-C, wireless charging and even HDMI. Towing is rated at 3.5 tonnes. The trade-off is boot volume (441 litres in the five-seat due to the hybrid battery), and real-world economy closer to ~9.5 L/100 km vs factory mid-8s.
