A quick walkaround of my 1955 Thunderbird Sky-View concept with the top installed, in it's final design - now including all of the concept modifications. I took this in sort of a hurry since the heat index here in SW Houston was 100 degrees this afternoon. Most modifications are either similar to Ford Motor Companies original concepts and pre-production Thunderbirds from 1954-55, or in the same vain - using mostly original Ford parts from 1954-1956. My Concept car was not intended to be a Custom car, or a Retro Mod car, but rather a "What If" 1954-55 Thunderbird Concept that Ford Motor Company could have designed and built in the time from of 1954-55, in consideration for as an option for production. Ford was producing a Glass Top in 1954-56 in the full size Ford line of cars named the Victoria Skyliner and Crown Victoria Skyliner, and Mercury was also producing one named the Sun Valley. So it is very possible that Ford could have offered a Glass Top on the new 1955 Thunderbird hardtop - which I call the Sky-View. Ford's Glass Tops were very large, as is my Glass Top, which really makes it very cool to look up and out of - even being able to see out of it while looking forward or to the side. The 1/4" plexiglass it tinted a teal color and is molded to the shape of the top. The trim and molding around it is the same (although modified in shape) as the rear window trim and molding. A special molding lip, like the rear window was designed and fabricated for the Glass Top molding and glass to fit into. The interior is a take off of the 1956 Continental Mark II, 1955 Lincoln, and 1954 Ford/Mercury black/white steering wheel. The fold down armrest (the only little bird to have one), is from the rear seat of a 1956 Continental Mark II. Instrument panel knobs are a Ivory color as were the 1955 Lincoln's knobs. The bumper guards are separated by 6" more, like the concept cars, and hve fog lights like the concept cars. The tail lights have tri vane bright trim pieces as well as black out fake vents like the 1954 Ford. The side chevrons have 12 hash marks like the Turbine car concept vs the factory's 9 hash marks. More changed, but those are some of them.
The 1955 Ford is an automobile which was produced by Ford in the United States for the 1955 model year and, in revised form, for the 1956 model year.
