1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk – Supercharged Performance and more! Engine: Supercharged 289 cu in³ (4.7 L) V8 with a McCulloch centrifugal blower. Power Output: ≈ 275 hp — the same rating as earlier Packard engines, but from a smaller Studebaker block thanks to the supercharger. 0-60 mph: Around 9.2 seconds, quite brisk for the era. Top Speed: About 125 mph in stock form. Transmission: 3-speed automatic (Flight-O-Matic) or sometimes manual available. Production: Only 878 Golden Hawks built in 1958, making it a rare classic today. 🚘 What Made It Special Studebaker dropped the earlier Packard 352 cu in V8 after 1956, and for 1957–1958 replaced it with its own smaller 289 V8. To keep power impressive and competitive, Studebaker fitted that 289 with a factory McCulloch supercharger, achieving the same ~275 hp output as the larger engine but with better weight balance. The supercharged Golden Hawk of 1958 is often seen as one of the more exciting U.S. performance cars of its day — a kind of proto-muscle car that isn’t as well known as later classics, but packs serious punch for the late 1950s #motoring #classiccars #vintagecar #museum #roadtrip #milesthroughtime #studebaker #goldenhawk #supercharged #sleepercar #sleeper #supercar #classicsupercar
