DRIVING AN ICON! My First Time in the PORSCHE 911 GT1 STRASSENVERSION

I never thought I might have an opportunity to drive the iconic Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion... but that dream has become reality! I'm at the Porsche Museum in Germany for an experience with the GT1 homologation special version of the 911, let's go! To compete in GT1 racing in the 1990s, manufacturers had to produce a limited run of road cars and hence the 993-based Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion (translating to road version). Along with the like of the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, Maserati MC12, the Porsche take was created using the chassis and front end of the 993 generation of the 911, and the rear of the legendary 962 race car. In total there are only 20 of these cars in the world, with prices in excess of $10 million considering the rarity, historical significance and nature of the machine. This particular car is the prototype that's normally seen on display at the Museum in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, and features the 996 look. While two road cars wore the 993 face, this now presents the updated 996 headlights and look, while sporting a 3.2l twin turbocharged flat-6 making 544hp. Over the years, I have stopped to visit the Porsche Museum on many occasions and it is always an absolute treat of a venue. However, this must be the absolute ultimate experience, to drive a car that has forever been on my bucket list and that I never thought I might one day be piloting.
