1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti sells for $22 Million at RM Sothebys Auction
Join the audience as Dana Mecum bids against a phone bidder to purchase the legendary 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider by Scaglietti. Dana won the car with a $20,000,000 ($22,005,000 total) to the excitement of the audience. One of two Factory-raced 410 Sports equipped with Ferrari’s 4.9-liter, 24-spark plug V12 engines. This purpose-built Ferrari was piloted by Carroll Shelby in 1956 and 1957. He won more races in this car than any other car during his racing career (8 wins, 10 podiums). My favorite detail, a note on the fuel tank from Carroll Shelby: “Mr. Ferrari told me this was the best Ferrari he ever built.” Dana’s purchase also included the first (1956) and last (1958) trophies won by Shelby driving this car, along with the Nassau racing license plate. Awesome piece of automotive history. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to witness this lot sell in person and to a good home.
