In the Garage With EHR: The Formcar Gets its Body

Car

This Formcar Formula V car is a 1964 and is chassis number 157. My dad picked up a while back and everything was rebuilt and (very) loosely bolted back together. We put in a new clutch, and a friend of the family helped get that and the brakes working after my dad made new brake lines. I wired up enough of it to get it running only to discover that the rebuilt trans didn't get the needed ring gear flip to get the now mid-engine 1600 VW to have 4 forward gears. So, since I am swamped with more pressing projects I drove it up to my house and decided to bolt the body back on the little racer so that you all could get a better look at it and it would be self contained, until I get a chance to get to it.

About Car

A car, or an automobile, is a motor vehicle with wheels. Most definitions of cars state that they run primarily on roads, seat 1-8 people, have four wheels, and mainly transport people rather than cargo. There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. A Glimpse into the Past: The Formcar Formula V's 1964 Body Reveal

The clip "In the Garage With EHR: The Formcar Gets its Body" is a fascinating piece of footage that offers a rare look at the construction and restoration process of a vintage car. Specifically, this 7:15 minute video focuses on the Formcar Formula V, chassis number 157, as it undergoes a significant transformation in 1964.

The Formcar Formula V is an intriguing vehicle, with its origins rooted in Seattle and its active years spanning from 2010 to present. While the car's bio provides a general overview of what constitutes a car – four wheels, primarily for transporting people rather than cargo – it's the specifics about this particular vehicle that make it noteworthy.

The footage itself is a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in automotive history and restoration processes. The narrator takes viewers through the process of rebuilding and reassembling the car, highlighting key components such as the new clutch and brake lines installed by a friend of the family. The attention to detail and care taken during this process are evident throughout the video.

One aspect that stands out is the use of a mid-engine 1600 VW in the Formcar Formula V. This unique configuration sets it apart from other cars, and the narrator's discovery that the rebuilt transmission didn't receive the necessary ring gear flip to achieve four forward gears adds an extra layer of complexity to the restoration process.

The clip also offers insight into the challenges faced by car enthusiasts and restorers. The narrator mentions being "swamped with more pressing projects," highlighting the time-consuming nature of restoring a vintage vehicle. The decision to temporarily bolt the body back on, allowing for a better look at the car's inner workings, is a testament to the dedication and resourcefulness required in such endeavors.

Furthermore, the video provides a glimpse into the world of Formula V cars, which were likely built for racing purposes. While the Formcar Formula V may not be as well-known as some other makes and models, its presence on this clip page serves as a reminder that there are many fascinating stories hidden within the automotive community.

In conclusion, "In the Garage With EHR: The Formcar Gets its Body" is an engaging and informative video that showcases the intricacies of restoring a vintage car. As such, it offers something for everyone – whether you're an avid car enthusiast or simply interested in the history and mechanics behind these incredible machines.
