Ford Romania — Rare Footage & Clips

Ford Romania's rich history spans nearly a century, with roots dating back to 1931 when the first Ford subsidiary company was established in Bucharest. The early days of Ford's presence in Romania were marked by significant milestones, including the production of iconic models that would go on to shape the country's automotive landscape.

One notable example is the Ford Taunus, a model that was produced at the Bucharest plant from 1956 to 1967. A clip from our archive shows the Taunus in action, its sleek design and robust engine making it a popular choice among Romanian drivers of the time. The Taunus's success can be attributed to its innovative features, such as its overhead valve engine and semi-automatic transmission.

Fast-forward to the present day, Ford Romania has undergone significant transformations under various ownerships. In 2008, Ford acquired Daewoo Automobile Romania, marking a new era for the company. This acquisition led to the establishment of Ford Otosan Romania SRL in Craiova, which would later be renamed to its current form.

The significance of Ford's presence in Romania extends beyond the automotive industry. Interestingly, the 1931 establishment of Ford's first subsidiary company coincided with a pivotal moment in Romanian music history. In that same year, the country's national radio station began broadcasting classical music performances, including works by renowned composers such as George Enescu and Ciprian Porumbescu.

While there is no direct connection between Ford Romania and the world of music, it is worth noting that the 1930s were a time of great cultural and artistic growth in Romania. The establishment of Ford's subsidiary company was likely influenced by the country's growing economy and increasing industrialization during this period.

In recent years, Ford Romania has continued to play an important role in the country's automotive sector. In 2022, the company underwent another significant change when it was purchased by Ford Otosan, leading to its current name, Ford Otosan Romania SRL. This development reflects the ongoing evolution of the automotive industry and the need for companies like Ford Romania to adapt to changing market conditions.
