Ferrari 512 S Modulo: James Glickenhaus Interview at Villa d'Este | MIGZ

Ferrari Modulo
1970s1970youtube

MIGZ interviews James Glickenhaus alongside his extraordinary 1970 Ferrari 512 S Modulo at the 2019 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Designed by Paolo Martin for Pininfarina, the Ferrari 512 S Modulo remains one of the most radical concept cars ever created. The one-off Modulo was unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show and was built around Ferrari 512 S racing-car architecture. Its ultra-low wedge-shaped body, partially covered wheels and forward-sliding canopy made it look more like a vision of the future than a conventional automobile. James Glickenhaus acquired the Modulo from Pininfarina in 2014 and undertook the remarkable project of turning what had effectively been a static concept car into a fully functioning automobile. At Villa d'Este in 2019, the Modulo appeared in the class "Daring to Dream: Concepts Which Rocked the Motoring World" and received the Trofeo Auto & Design for Most Exciting Design. In this interview, Jim talks with MIGZ about the Modulo, bringing the car back to life, Top Gear and his racing ambitions, including the Nürburgring. UPDATE — AUGUST 2026 This footage now captures an especially interesting moment in the Modulo's modern history. The interview was filmed at Villa d'Este in May 2019 and the video was published June 20, 2019. Eight days later, on June 28, 2019, the Modulo suffered a fire at the rear while Glickenhaus was driving it in Monaco. The onboard fire-suppression system extinguished the fire, damage was limited, and the car was subsequently repaired. Top Gear later published an extensive feature on the reborn Modulo in August 2019. That means this MIGZ interview documents the car after its remarkable return to running condition, but before two events that would bring significantly more attention to its story.
