BMW Z8: Munich's most misunderstood car? | PistonHeads

BMW Z8
2000s2000youtube

The Ford GT, Mercedes SLS AMG and even the new Mini proved that reboots could work. So how come the Z8 struggled to get off the ground? Well, in the UK anyway. BMW sold 5,703 examples between 2000 and 2003, almost half of which were in the US. But fewer than 150 sold in Britain, and fewer still are on the road today. It's certainly got all the right ingredients: a beautiful Henrik Fisker design that pays homage to the old BMW 507, a bespoke interior and the 400hp V8 from the E39 M5. Perhaps it was ahead of its time, because the Z8 feels fresher than ever in 2024. We'll leave it to Cam to explain why. A huge thank you to the seller of this BMW Z8 for allowing us to film their car. ✋ See the BMW Z8 auction here: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/auction/17135427 🏎️ Sell your car with PistonHeads Auctions: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/auctions 🔴 Subscribe to PistonHeads: http://bit.ly/2aKvdVO Follow us on social media: 🗣 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pistonheads 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pistonheads 🐦 Twitter: https://twitter.com/pistonheads #BMW #Z8

About BMW Z8

The BMW Z8 is a roadster produced by German automotive manufacturer BMW from 1998 to 2003. The Z8 was developed under the codename "E52" between 1993 and 1999, through the efforts of a design team led by Chris Bangle from 1993 to 1995. The exterior was designed by Henrik Fisker and the interior by Scott Lempert. The Z8 originally was designed as a styling exercise intended to evoke and celebrate the 1956–1959 BMW 507. Prototypes were spotted testing between 1996 and 1999.
