ONCE A START DATE IS ASSIGNED IT WILL BE UPDATED HERE. STAY TUNED.** This fabulous 1962 Mercedes Benz 190 SL is a true European classic with amazing character. This car has been professionally restored to show quality standards throughout. The Mercedes Benz 190 SL is a two-door luxury roadster produced by Mercedes Benz between May 1955 and February 1963. A total of only 25,881 were built during the entire production run. It was first shown in a prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show where it stole the hearts of many. This car was purchased in 2014 from a well-known Mercedes Benz enthusiast by Tom Gibson of Cross Roads Restorations. Tom would manage a meticulous nut and bolt concourse restoration performed by well-known Performance and Vintage Classicos. A copy of its original build sheet verifies its original specifications and major components including that it was supplied as a U.S version in Red with a Black cloth top and Black leather upholstery. The build sheet also verifies it retains its original chassis, body and engine. As the restoration photos document this car was stripped to a bare shell and placed on a rotisserie. Countless hours were invested in the attention of detail for this labor of love. The restoration was done in accordance with original factory specifications and very effort was made to make sure it was done as correctly as possible. As a further testament mostly NOS and Mercedes Benz OEM parts were used throughout the restoration. The restoration was completed in 2016 and it has been driven 800 miles since completion. The car retains all the original sheet metal. Only minor sheet metal work was required during the restoration. The body is very straight and it has great gap lines throughout. During the restoration it only made sense to paint the car the Mercedes Blue Code #DB335 which is simply gorgeous. This is a correct color for the year and suits this car perfectly. The paint is high quality throughout and has been detailed to a brilliant shine. The car sports a new Dark Blue convertible top which looks amazing in combination with the Mercedes Blue paint. The outside of the wheels are painted Blue to match the exterior and inside are painted Green which is correct. Mercedes Benz used paints left from WWII as demonstrated on the back of wheels and underside of body. The wheels are wrapped with new Vredestein Sprint Classic Whitewall radial tires which provide a comfortable ride. A set of B.F. Goodrich Silverstone Special 82S 6.40-13 Bias Ply Whitewall tires are included for judging purposes. During the restoration the decision was made to add a Parchment leather interior in the original pattern. This exterior color and interior color is a stunning seldom-seen color combination. The interior of this car is very luxurious and surprisingly spacious. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the sun visors, dash, gauges, dash hardware, steering wheel, door panels, seats, shifter and carpeting. The sun visors were upgraded to smoked glass with chrome trim rather than leather. It has an eight day wind up clock and the gauges were rebuilt by well-known Palo Alto. Everything is in working order with exception of the radio which does light up. The trunk compartment has been nicely finished with a trunk mat, spare tire and tools. The engine compartment is highly detailed with many correct parts throughout. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 1.9L Inline SOHC 4-cylinder engine that was rated with 105 HP from the factory. During the restoration the engine was completely rebuilt and runs excellent. The twin Solex carburetors were also rebuilt by specialist Will Samples of S&S Imports. A new wiring harness was supplied by Rhode Island Wiring. The car currently has a new black NAPA battery with no stickers. A factory correct battery that doesn’t work properly is included for judging purposes. The engine is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission that’s believed to be original to the car. The transmission and rear end were both gone through during the restoration. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts throughout. The underside of the body was finished in tan which is correct. This again was the paint Mercedes Benz had left over from WWII. Everything was restored or replaced such as the exhaust system, steering components, braking components, suspension components and fuel tank. An extra wheel trim ring, hub cap and car cover is included. This car is one of best and truly a masterpiece. Follow us on social media!
