1959 4th International Auto Show opens in New York

The big wheels and the little wheels of the automobile world are gathered this week for one of the largest car exhibts ever held in the United States. (TAKE FILM) At the Coliseum, in New York City, Under-secretary of Commerce John J. Allen, Jr. assists at ribbon cutting ceremonies as the 4th International Automobile Show gets underway. More than 300 cars from 86 manufacturers representing every major automobile producing country in the world are being shown. kid looks Even the Soviet Union is represented, with three models of the Moskvich on display. Note the Russian star, pominent on the Moskvich hood. Also present are two models of another Russian car, the Volga. KID LOOKS The sailor is sizing up the Valiant, one of Americas new compact cars on display side by side with the latest foreign models. At the other end of the price line is this plush Imperial limousine. The price tag is $15,600. And that doesnt include the girl. Cars of the future can be seen too. This one is the Plymouth XNR idea car. Its a sleek roadster with the profile of a large single fin. Its streamlining features are concentrated around the driver. Frances idea car is the Simca Fulgur, controlled by an electronic brain. And finally, heres proof that even a dummy can ride a motorcycle.
