The Toyota GR GT3 is making waves again, this time testing on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium. Introduced in January 2022 as the GR GT3 Concept, it was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon, offering a sneak peek into what could replace the aging Lexus RC F GT3. While its official racing debut is planned for the 2026 season, recent sightings of a camouflaged prototype in Europe have sparked new excitement. Rob Leupe, Toyota’s World Endurance Championship team director, confirmed this during an interview in 2023, aligning the road car’s launch with the racing model’s 2026 debut. Fans can likely expect the production car to feature a roaring eight-cylinder engine, hinted at by the race car’s deep exhaust note. Though initially planned to race in 2025, the project faced delays due to challenges in developing the road-going version. David Wilson, President of Toyota Racing Development, reassured enthusiasts in early 2024 that the project remains on track, with 2026 set as the target for its launch. Homologation and other critical steps are progressing steadily.
