Welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re taking a deep dive into what many enthusiasts consider to be the peak of Toyota’s over-engineering: the 6th Generation Toyota Corolla (E90 chassis), produced from 1987 to 1991. This car cemented the Corolla’s reputation for bulletproof reliability globally and remains a common sight on roads everywhere, a true testament to its build quality. We start with an in-depth tour of the classic E90's design. This generation introduced a more rounded, aerodynamic style compared to its boxy predecessors, yet retained the simplicity that makes it so beloved by mechanics. We check out the spacious and no-nonsense interior, focusing on the simple, durable dashboard and the impressive visibility that makes it a perfect daily driver even today. Next, we hit the road! The driving experience of the E90 is a major highlight. We discuss the transition to a predominantly front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout (though we do mention the rare All-Trac AWD versions!) and showcase the famously robust 16-valve engines, such as the reliable 4A-FE and the potent 4A-GE found in the GTi/GT-S models. We talk about the simple suspension setup and the light, predictable handling that defined 80s and early 90s compact cars. Crucially, we provide a used car buyers guide. We discuss the common problems to look out for in the E90, which mostly center on age-related wear like rust (especially on the rear arches and tailgate) and minor electrical gremlins, rather than major mechanical failures. This segment offers vital advice for anyone looking to purchase one of these classic Toyotas today. Is the E90 Corolla the ultimate cheap, long-lasting classic car? Watch and find out! The Corolla E90 was the sixth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate, introduced in 1987 for the 1988 model year. It was the last generation of Corolla to be classified as a subcompact car and the first to be exclusively front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; the performance option of rear-wheel drive was dropped.
