Jaguar Tests Its First Ever All-Electric Car On London's Roads Described as 'the future of motoring', Jaguar's I-PACE has been flexing its electrical muscles around the capital Jaguar has started testing its first ever all-electric car on the roads in London. Called the I-PACE, it's due to be fully unveiled towards the end of the year. But the carmaker clearly wanted to show how things were coming along. Jaguar has been driving it on real roads around the UK capital to show that the 90kWh battery power system can cut it alongside its petrol-fuelled brethren. According to Jaguar, the I-PACE will do zero to sixty in around four seconds. Perhaps more important than the acceleration is the range. Jaguar claims it will do 500km (310 miles) on a single charge. When it comes to juicing up, the car can be powered up to 80% after 90 minutes attached to a 50kW DC charger. Ian Callum, Jaguar's director of design said: “Driving the concept on the streets is really important for the design team. "It’s very special to put the car outside and in the real-world. You can see the true value of the I-PACE’s dramatic silhouette and powerful proportions when you see it on the road, against other cars. “The I-PACE Concept represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. For me, the future of motoring has arrived.” Jaguar will be competing primarily with Tesla - Elon Musk's well-known electric car maker. But other manufacturers, such as Nissan, are also well into building their own fleet of electric vehicles. But Jag isn't worried about what the others are doing. “The feedback on the I-PACE concept has been fantastic,” said Callum. "With the I-PACE Concept we've torn up the rule book to create a vehicle with supercar inspired aesthetics, sports car performance and SUV space, in one electric package. "It has surprised people and the enthusiasm for our first electric vehicle has been beyond all my expectations." http://www.mirror.co.uk/tech/jaguar-tests-first-ever-electric-10040917

There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808. The mode...
