The 1983 Ford Probe IV was a radical aerodynamic research vehicle developed with Ghia to explore extreme fuel efficiency. It achieved a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.152, a figure Ford famously compared to an F-16 fighter jet. To reach this, designers used a wedge shape, fully shrouded wheels, flush-mounted glass, and pop-up headlights. It even lacked a front radiator opening, instead venting through the rear. A standout feature was its active suspension system. At high speeds, the car automatically lowered its nose and raised its tail to optimize airflow. It also featured flexible membranes over the front wheel wells to maintain a smooth surface even while turning. Inside, the cabin featured a digital dash and a steering wheel with a translucent rim. Only two examples were built. One is a functional car with a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, currently residing at the Petersen Automotive Museum. The other is a non-running display and wind-tunnel model built on a wooden frame. This second car recently resurfaced in the collector market after years of storage in Texas. #barnfind #conceptcar

The mode...
