Ferrari 330 GTC — BTS with DTS — Ep. 6

Ferrari 330
1960syoutube

Nearly everyone who has spent a lot of time driving vintage Ferraris ranks the 330 GTC near the top of their list of the best-driving classic Ferraris. Nearly everyone else doesn’t know what the 330 GTC is. Yes, it’s a two-seat front-engined V12 Ferrari, just like we still have today, but for the entire duration of its production (and the production of its nearly identical replacement, the 365 GTC), there were *two* two-seat V12 Ferraris available, initially the 275 GTB and then the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. These latter two cars are the cars whose descendents we know today, cars like the 550 Maranello and 812 Superfast. So where does that leave the 330 and 365 GTC, particularly given that it’s a model line that had no predecessor and no successor? In this video, Derek Tam-Scott explains where exactly the 330 GTC fits in the Ferrari hierarchy and why it’s such a special experience today, and how it owes its existence to some of the greatest Ferraris of all time, including the 250 SWB and GTO, as well as the 275 GTB and the racing prototypes of the first half of the 1960s. BTS (behind the scenes) with DTS: Derek Tam-Scott’s spirit age is excess of 75 years old, and nowhere is that clearer than his taste in cars. At age 16, he went to work at one of the United States' foremost vintage car dealers, which cemented his elderly taste. Now with a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving, and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced many of the world’s most iconic cars. And even liked some of them. Most of the car enthusiasts of Derek’s generation (and well, let’s be honest, even a generation or two before him) don’t have much experience with the magic of vintage cars prior to the 1980s, and therefore lack the knowledge and exposure to get genuinely excited about them. The goal of BTS is to give an insider’s perspective on why these cars particularly are great...or at least interesting and noteworthy. Derek brings his encyclopedic knowledge and broad experience together to contextualize these cars to give the audience understanding of both why it matters, and what it’s actually like to experience the cars. About Ferrari 330

The Ferrari 330 was a series of V12 powered automobiles produced by Ferrari in 2+2 GT Coupé, two-seat Berlinetta, spyder, and race car versions between 1963 and 1968. The name "330" refers to the approximate displacement of each single cylinder in cubic centimeters. The first, the 2+2 330 America, was a 250 GT/E with a larger 4.0-litre engine; the 330 GTC/GTS shared its chassis with the 275; the 330 GT 2+2 had its own chassis and bodywork; the mid-engined 330P racer was part of the Ferrari P ser...
