Reducing Correcting Collet Run Out on a VR300 Snap-On Valve Grinder Inspection and Spindle Rebuild
In this video I show the snap on Vr-300 valve grinder and seat grinder that was so kindly donated to the channel. I go thru replacing the spindle bearings that were locked up but I got free that were making all kinds of noise. After fixing that I turned my attention to reducing the run out in the collet chuck that holds the valves. I found online the original spec for this machine was sub 0.001" but I wanted it better than that. A half a day of inspecting and selective sanding with emory cloth got the repeatable run out down to about 0.0005" Next up I need to see what I can do about tightening up the bushings that hold the collet spindle as if it is flopping around the total run out will still be trash. Follow along as I bring this probably 50year old piece of equipment back to life!
