La tercera generación de la LUV fue basada en la primera generación de la Isuzu TF y se ensambló en las plantas Chevrolet de Arica en Chile, GM OBB en Ecuador y también en Colombia por GM Colmotores. Corria Octubre de 1988 y General Motors Chile estrena la 3era generación de la LUV, un modelo que revolucionará el mercado automotor nacional dado su uso tanto como vehículo de trabajo como recreacional, siendo ensamblada en la ciudad de Arica, con kits provenientes de la Isuzu japonesa. El modelo LUV en Chile se presentaba en 2 motorizaciones;1.6 litros (Motor Isuzu 4ZA1) y 2.3 litros (Motor Isuzu 4ZD1)) y en versiones de una cabina, cabina doble y equipo completo, con aire acondicionado, llantas de aleación, espejos y vidrios eléctricos y cierre centralizado. Ya para Junio de 1991, la Luv el modelo recibe su primer “facelift” de carrocería; una modificación menor, reconocible por una nueva máscara y renovados parachoques. Mantiene sus motorizaciones y carrocerias, aunque se incorporpora la Diesel 2.2L C223 (2.238 cc) de 61 CV a 4.000 rpm, torque de 130 Nm a 2.200 rpm, transmisión manual de 4 velocidades. A partir de 1994, la LUV se comercializó con motores catalíticos MPFI (Multi-Point Fuel Injection) (Inyección multipunto), lo cual contribuía en un ahorro de combustibles y en una menor emisión de gases . En abril de 1997, General Motors Chile estrenaba la denominada LUV de 4 ta generación, motor 2.3L de 89 y 100 HP, un modelo que se presentaba con un nuevo diseño, una renovada máscara, luces traseras de mayor tamaño, y un panel de instrumentos totalmente nuevo, entre otras características. La LUV 1997 arribaba en 4 versiones: Cabina simple, Cabina doble 4x2, Cabina doble 4x4 y Space Cab. Al año siguiente, en tanto, se sumará la motorización V6 3.2L de 190 HP, cabina doble 4x2 y 4x4. Varios modelos de la LUV fueron introducidos entre 1999 y 2004. La Chevrolet Millenium y Millenium II, con la pequeña diferencia que tiene una franja de color que contrasta con su color base. Otra versión exclusiva fabricada en Chile fue la Chevrolet Grand LUV Wagon con tracción en las cuatro ruedas.
