In this video, I'm pleased to show you two Mercedes-Benz "Silver Arrows", legendary single-seaters in the Stuttgart house's motorsport history. We are talking about the 1939 W165 and 1954 W196. The first of the two single-seaters was built in two units to participating in the Tripoli Grand Prix of 1939 in the "Voiturette" category. Set up in just seven months using the W154 model as a starting point, they consist of a tubular frame in nickel-chromium-molybdenum with oval section tubes, independent wheel suspension at the front and De Dion axle at the rear. The V12-derived engine of the W154 is a 1.5-litre V8 supercharged by two Roots compressors: 5-speed mechanical gearbox and total car weight of only 715Kg. The debut in Libya went in the best way, the drivers Hermann Lang and Rudolf Caracciola finished in first and second place. The W196 car is significant for Mercedes-Benz history because it sees the manufacturer's back in racing after 15 years of absence and it does so with this Formula 1 model. It was raced in the 1954 and 1955 seasons by the drivers Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss won both world championships with 9 victories out of 12 overall races. The chassis comprises a reticular structure in welded magnesium tubes, very light, weighing only 36 kg. We find independent wheel suspension in both axles and four double-shoe drum brakes with cooling fins, positioned inboard. The engine is a 2.5-litre in-line 8-cylinder with direct petrol injection, desmodromic valve distribution, developing 290hp at 8,500 rpm and powered by a 5-speed manual gearbox. The total weight of the car is only 750Kg. Thank my friends and YouTubers @19Bozzy92, @MattyB727 & @NM2255 with whom I collaborated to realise this video. Enjoy! ➪⚠️➪⚠️➪ Check out these playlists, you might be interested: ➪ Formula 1 & Formula cars, the best V12, V10 & V8 engine sound: http://bit.ly/F1cars ➪ Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019: http://bit.ly/GoodwoodFOS2019 ➪ Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018: http://bit.ly/GoodwoodFOS2018 #silverarrows #mercedes #w196 #w165 #f1 #f1legends #oldbenz #mercedesbenz #goodwood #fos Video Chapters: 00:00 - 01:32 ➪ 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 in Action 01:33 - 02:46 ➪ 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 Details 02:47 - 04:45 ➪ 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 in Action 04:25 - 04:50 ➪ 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 Details 04:51 - 05:27 ➪ 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 Rain Action 05:28 - 06:20 ➪ 1939 Mercedes-Benz W165 in Action Part II Event / Manifestazione: Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS) When / Quando: July 2018-2019 Where / Dove: Goodwood, West Sussex, UK More info / Maggiori Informazioni: Mercedes-Benz: https://www.mercedes-benz.com Goodwood Festival of Speed: https://www.goodwood.com ✔️ Follow me: http://bit.ly/ISCVideo New HD video every 2 Days, subscribe and don't forget to click the Bell 🔔 to get notifications of all my latest updates. About Mercedes-Benz W165

The Mercedes-Benz W165 is a racing car designed by Mercedes-Benz in late 1938 to meet voiturette racing regulations, with the intend to enter and win the non-championship 7 May 1939 Tripoli Grand Prix in Italian Libya, and to be prepared for possible future rules changes. The supercharged 1.5 litre V8 monoposto won this race, driven to a 1–2 victory by Hermann Lang and teammate Rudolf Caracciola, Mercedes' greatest surprise. It was never raced again, but a private Caracciola entry in the 1946 In...
