EY’s Mobility Consumer Index reveals only 15% of Canadians planning to buy a new car intend to choose a Battery EV. This marks a 3% drop compared to last year. Additionally, overall zero-emission vehicle interest, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids, fell by 2%. The study highlights key consumer concerns: limited driving range, high battery replacement costs, insufficient charging infrastructure, and higher prices compared to traditional vehicles. Jennifer Rogers, EY Canada’s automotive and transportation leader, emphasized that range anxiety and charging challenges are significant barriers for buyers. This shift may signal a volatile future for Electric Vehicle sales in Canada as 2025 approaches.
