I Rebuilt My 911 Engine in a Way Porsche Never Would

Two years ago I pulled the engine out of my 1984 Porsche 911 with zero oil pressure and no idea what I'd find inside. This is what was inside...and how I rebuilt it to make double the horsepower. Part Two of the 911 build series — the full air-cooled engine rebuild. The teardown goes outside-in, layer by layer, toward the one place you can't come back from: if the crank is gone, the build is over. This is the video where I finally find out. Then it goes back together the other direction, center-out, and every decision gets made at the part I couldn't afford to lose. Machining the original 1984 pistons by hand down to 8.5:1 instead of buying the $5,000 set I didn't have. Forged rods to carry 5,000 lb of load at 7,500 rpm. A GT3 oil pump moving thirty percent more volume, and extra galleys cut into the case. 140,000 miles and forty years of original metal, rebuilt for something Porsche never intended it to do.
