Karl Nichols converted a 1988 Porsche 924S into a fully electric sports car using a 2023 Nissan Leaf as the donor -- for around $20,000. The result: 200 miles of range, 0-60 in about 5 seconds, and a car he drove from Taos, New Mexico to the State of Charge conference in Denver on public charging alone. We caught up with Karl the day before his Behind the Build presentation to get the full walkthrough and a ride along. He breaks down the entire conversion: the Resolve EV controller, the Leaf motor and battery pack, upgraded Tesla brakes, custom coilovers with Swift Springs, and how he merged the Nissan and Porsche axle systems into a drivetrain with zero vibration and instant torque. This is what a budget-friendly DIY EV conversion looks like when it's done right. 00:00 1988 Porsche 924S and its backstory 01:54 Motor choice and Nissan Leaf donor system 04:12 Battery Layout and Suspension Upgrades 06:33 First Launch and Ride Along 08:27 Road Tripping an EV Conversion 11:14 Range, Performance, and what's Next Learn more about builders like Karl at EVTuners.com #EVConversion #Porsche924 #NissanLeaf #ElectricCar #EVTuners #DIYElectric #ClassicCarEV
