This wonderful 1942 Crosley Convertible Coupe “Pre-War” is simply one of the best. It was completely restored to show quality condition throughout. It was a 1st Place award winner at the Crosley National Meet held in Wauseon, OH on July 14th, 2018.
“Crosley Motors Incorporated produced vehicles from 1939 to 1952, interrupted by World War II from 1943 to 1945. Its main office and engineering facility was located in Cincinnati, OH with assembly plants in Richmond, IN (1939-1942) and in Marion, IN (1946-1952). The Crosley automobile was the brain child of Powel Crosley, who had already made his fortune as a radio and appliance manufacturer, owner of the WLW the “Nation’s Station” and the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.” - Crosley Automobile Club, Inc.
This 1942 Crosley Convertible Coupe is one of only 5,757 Pre-War total production Crosleys and one of only 1,029 Crosley Convertibles produced in 1942. Most of the Pre-War Crosley convertibles are sedans and not coupes. The coupes have the rounded doors like this one. This is a true Microcar that has an 80” wheelbase and is 120” in length. It was the product of a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration which was completed in 2018. No expense was spared on the restoration resulting in a very correct example that is detailed from top to bottom. Every part was restored or replaced which took a ton of time in research and labor. When this car was new it was advertised for $299.00 so the craftsmanship wasn’t at a high level from the factory. During the restoration extra time went into the craftsmanship for a better presentation.
The exterior body is straight and the panels fit nicely throughout. It was finished in White which dresses this body well. The paint job is very nice throughout. The color is complemented with a Black soft top. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced such as the front windshield, side windows, hood ornament, door handles, front grille, headlights, emblems, front bumper and rear bumper. It sits on 12” steel wheels that were painted orange. The wheels were wrapped with 4.80-12 tires that have Atlas White wall covers. It’s equipped with a matching spare that is mounted on the rear. With the great design and striking colors this 1942 Crosley Convertible Coupe is stunning!
The beautiful White and Red interior is surprisingly spacious and comfortable. The entire interior shell was painted in White including the dash, door panels and floors. The door panels and seats were re-upholstered in Red. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the rear view mirror, windshield wiper, steering wheel and gauges. Everything in the interior is in working order such as the gauges, headlights, horn and interior light. The interior is just fun!
The engine compartment is highly detailed and retains many correct parts throughout. It even has the cloth covered wiring. The entire engine bay was painted in White which looks very clean. The fuel tank was also painted in White. The car is powered by an original 2-cylinder (673cc) air cooled engine. The engine was completely rebuilt and runs great. It sounds awesome out the new exhaust system. The engine is coupled to 3-speed manual transmission. The transmission was also completely rebuilt and shifts great.
The undercarriage is nicely detailed and retains many correct parts throughout. The undercarriage floor was painted White which looks really clean. Everything underneath was restored or replaced including the braking system and suspension system.
This 1942 Crosley Convertible Coupe is a rare Microcar that has been restored to a high quality. It’s a great conversation piece and will be a great addition to any collection.
