(9 Mar 2018) LEADIN: It's all about speed at the Geneva Motor Show, as turbo-charged car makers aim to wow visitors with outrageous levels of horse power and torque. One new Italian hyper car company is aiming to hit 500 kilometres (310 miles) an hour with its first production vehicle. STORYLINE: Chinese automotive company Techrules is debuting this ultra-high-performance Ren RS in Geneva. The hybrid supercar uses a turbine-recharging electric vehicle system (TREV) to deliver high levels of efficiency. That means a top speed of 330 kilometres (205 miles) an hour and 0-100kph in around three seconds. "This car obviously has high speed, it's 330 kilometres an hour, it's basically Formula One technology, it does 0-60 miles an hour in less than 3 seconds," says Eric Geers from Techrules. "So, it's everything what you can expect from a sports car, but it's also extremely environmentally-friendly." Techrules says the race track-ready supercar will be available for track use and delivered to an exclusive group of customers in the next two years. The vehicle is more a demonstration of Techrules' turbine technology that delivers a power output of about 960 kW. "For this specific car, it's obviously going to priced in the Bugatti Veyron class, there's not so many that will be able to afford this one," says Geers. "But if you go down and look into the future, you will have cars in lower classes that would be of interest to anybody who wants electricity, who wants environmentally-friendly cars, and who wants range." It's all about speed at the Geneva Motor Show, as turbo-charged car makers aim to wow visitors with outrageous levels of horse power and torque. Some, like Techrules, are combining combustion and battery-powered engines to deliver new levels of performance. "I think what you're seeing from these small, bespoke manufacturers is they're seizing an opportunity," says Jim Holder from 'Autocar' magazine. "There is an opportunity as the mainstream car industry changes, as it faces new challenges around electrification, around autonomy, around looking in all sorts of different directions. "We're starting to see some of these bespoke car makers who can move faster, they're smaller, they're more agile, they can use some of those technology, or they can use the opportunity provided by it or the gaps that it opens up, to do something different." Newly-founded Italian auto company Corbellati is aiming to push the limits with this fittingly named 'Missile' hyper car. Packed with about 1,800 horse power from its 9-litre V8 engine, the company aims to race it to 500 kilometres an hour. "The top speed is 500 kilometres an hour minimum and the horsepower of the car 1,800 in the standard form, we can have more if we actually need them," says Achille Corbellati. "But that would be enough to actually go 500 (kph). "We've got an enormous amount of torque, 2,350 newton metres, which is like too much really, and that is quite a lot more than the other cars that are actually trying to reach that speed. "So, we are quite confident that we can reach that without problem, also because we've studied all the dynamics of the car, so adapted that, we tested it and from the start the car was thought out and designed to go to 500 (kph)." The Corbellati family has a history of creating jewellery and art, but now Achille is turning his attention to high-performance sports cars. They intend to test the car in the coming months to prove that it can hit 500kph. The annual Geneva International Motor Show opened to the public on 8 March and runs until March 18.
