Renault Nissan Automotive India Plant Going Water Positive by 2030

Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL), the first global manufacturing powerhouse for the Renault Nissan Alliance, has rolled out a whopping 2.5 million cars from its state-of-the-art facility in Chennai recently. That's an average of over 1.92 lakh Renault and Nissan cars hitting the roads every year. The journey began in May 2010 when the first-ever vehicle, the Nissan Micra, rolled off the production line. Since then, RNAIPL has been on a roll, manufacturing cars at a rate of one car every three minutes. The plant has not only hit significant milestones, including half a million vehicles by September 2013 and a million by January 2016, but it has also made 20 different Renault and Nissan models. As part of a whopping $600 million investment by the Renault Nissan Alliance in India, RNAIPL is gearing up to introduce six new car models, including two electric vehicles. Keerthi Prakash, the Managing Director of RNAIPL, spills the beans on their commitment to digitalisation. The company is adopting cutting-edge techniques like 'picking the right part' to ensure top-quality products. The goal is to make the entire management system digital within the next three to five years, transforming the shop floor into a paperless. RNAIPL is on a mission to be carbon neutral by 2045. Currently, 60% of its energy comes from renewable sources, and 85% of water needs are met through harvested rainwater. The company is striving to be water-positive by 2030. Not a single drop of water is discharged outside the plant now.
