HOT NEWS | VW Arteon grand tourer for Geneva motor show debut

Volkswagen has released teaser images of its new 2017 Arteon fastback, which will replace the Volkswagen CC coupe saloon when it goes on sale later this year. The new Arteon will be officially revealed at March’s Geneva Motor Show, but the photographs and design sketches made available in advance do much to kindle interest. The partial picture of the front, for instance, shows a new design language from VW, with the chromed radiator grille segueing almost seamlessly into the LED lights. Sharp creases on the clamshell bonnet provide a visual counterpoint, emphasising the Arteon’s coupe-like sleekness and tapering lines, while the large VW badge bestrides both the grille and the bonnet’s leading edge. The Arteon will be available with a range of engines from Volkswagen’s stable. The new turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol first seen in the recently-facelifted Golf will feature, as will a 188bhp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. Expect the usual crop of 2.0-litre diesels with varying power outputs (148 and 178bhp are likely), as well as a more potent 236bhp 3.0-litre diesel. A petrol-electric Arteon GTE also seems probable.
