1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Straßenversion (Strassenversion, Street version or street legal). Specs: Engine: 3.2L Flat/Boxer 6 cyl biturbo Power: 544hp (400kW) Torque: 600Nm (443 lb-ft) Max speed: 310kmh (192mph) 0-100kmh (62mph): 3.9s 0-200kmh (124mph): 10.5a History: In 1996, the first mid-engined 911 competed at GT championships. Regulations required the production of road legal street versions. After having built two cars in 1996, 21 units of a street version were built in Weissach based on the 911 GT1 of season 1997. They were sold for DM 1,550,000 (790,000 euros) each. Now (2023) the price for each car is around 10 million euros. A very stiff chassis used composite designs of sheet steel and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic. Both axles featured double wishbones. Eight piston callipers at the front and four calliper units at the rear ensured an impressive braking performance of the 380 millimeter brake discs. Info: Regulations for the GT1 category stipulated that to be eligible, a total of 25 cars must be built for road use. Porsche developed two prototype cars, both fully road-legal versions. The first was delivered in early 1996 to the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development for compliance testing, which it passed. The second prototype vehicle is in the hands of a Bahrain-based private car collector Khalid Abdul Rahim. These two cars feature 993 style front headlights. The production car - dubbed "911 GT1 Straßenversion" - was a run of approximately 20 units which were built in 1997 and featured 996 style front headlights. The majority of the production model was finished in Arctic Silver or Fern White, but three cars were finished in unique colours: Polar Silver, Indian Red, and Pastel Yellow. The engine had to be slightly de-tuned to meet European emissions laws, although its 400 kW (544 PS; 536 hp) at 7,200 rpm and 600 N⋅m (443 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,250 rpm proved to be more than adequate; the car could accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 308 km/h (191 mph).
The Porsche 911 model series (pronounced Nine Eleven or in German: Neunhundertelf, or colloquially Neunelfer) is a family of two-door, high performance rear-engine sports cars, introduced in September 1964 by Porsche of Stuttgart, Germany, and now in its eighth generation. All 911s have a rear-mounted flat-six engine, and usually 2+2 seating, except for special 2-seater variants. Originally, 911s had air-cooled engines, and torsion bar suspension, but the 911 has been continuously changed and im...
