In 2019 the ACO announced the new 2nd Generation Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) regulations, with full implementation due by 2021, and to be raced from 2020 to 2024. Four chassis manufacturers were announced as granted homologation for the new ruleset: Onroak Automotive (Ligier), Duqueine Automotive (Norma), ADESS AG and Ginetta. The old Nissan VK50VE 5.0-litre V8 engine has been replaced on all new LMP3s with the 5.6-litre VK56 V8, which also introduces and increase of power of around 35hp (460hp is now the total power of LMP3s) compared to the 5.0L Among these four manufacturers, Ginetta is the only one to have opted for a LMP3 with a rear exhaust layout instead of the side exhaust we're used to with the various Ligier and Duqueine P3s. This detail make a huge difference in the way the Nissan v8 roars on track and for some reasons it reminds me of a Lola T70 Mk3 sports prototype if it had a sequential gearbox instead of the manual one. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808.
