DID FORD FIX IT? 2021+ Bronco Sport / Escape 1.5L 3 Cylinder Ecoboost Teardown. DISPOSABLE ENGINE!

Ford Bronco Sport
2020s2021youtube

Ford replaced the abysmal 1.0L Ecoboost with this, the 1.5L "Dragon" Ecoboost engine for the 2021+ Escape and Bronco Sport. We all know the 1.0L had big issues some leading the recalls. This is the second iteration of that engine and the first one I've had a chance to buy for a teardown. This engine is from a 2021 Ford Escape SE and was replaced with approximately 70K miles according to the carfax. Will these engines be significantly better? Did they fix the issues that plague the original design and will there be a drastic reduction in failed engines because of the redesign? Thats what this video is hoping to shed some light into. For parts visit www.Importapart.com or email us at Sales@Importapart.com For other I Do Cars content check out my wife's channel at https://www.youtube.com/@TheCarWifeLife For cool car related shirts, click here! https://www.blipshift.com/?utm_source=i-do-cars&utm_medium=affiliate Every week I post a new teardown video of a blown up or suspected bad engine. Check out a few of my favorites! 1. Ford 1.0L Ecoboost teardown. These are JUNK! https://youtu.be/0yx1-50iqnA 2. Fiat/Dodge 1.4L Multiair Teardown https://youtu.be/ypxEkt33Ytw 3. Chevy(daewoo) 1.4L Ecotec Teardown https://youtu.be/lSkwCKRwp4w Why do I do this? My name is Eric and I own and run Importapart, a full service auto recycling business. Part of our model includes buying and dismantling core, bad, and broken engines to salvage the good parts and recycle the rest. We do not rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those who do. As always I hope you enjoyed this teardown. I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one! -Eric 00:00 Intro 02:45 A peek down the intake ports. Kinda rusty. DID YOU STORE THIS OUTSIDE? 03:03 Removing the crank pulley and water pump 04:37 Prying the timing cover off. Woo hoo the belt is gone! welllllll about that... 06:31 Peeling the timing system off, chain and guides 07:48 Checking the VCT solenoids for junk. There's junk :( 09:32 Unbolting the valve cover and wait a second, THE CAMS ARE WHAT? 12:35 Cracking the headbolts loose and decapitating the engine 14:04 SCIENCE 14:56 Unbolting the removing the lower oil pan. Mmmm that looks bad 15:58 The Achilles Heel of this engine. Mark My Words! 17:13 Testing, removing and dismantling the oil pump 19:38 Unbolting the upper oil pan 21:10 Cracking the rod cap bolts loose and pushing the rods and pistons out 23:35 First attempt to remove the balance shaft 24:12 Removing the crankshaft. So THATS how you get the belt out. YIKES 25:13 Second attempt at removing the balance shaft 27:10 Balance shaft removing itself 27:22 full rotating assembly inspection, block, crank, balance shaft, crankshaft, rods and pistons, rings, bearings. 30:06 The oil pump belt is... not great 31:05 Summary
