BYD & DJI Drone System

Car
youtube

BYD and drone maker DJI have joined forces to create the Lingyuan, a vehicle-mounted drone system that costs just $2,200 USD, and is configured to work while the vehicle is moving. No, you are not in The Matrix. Translating as ‘Spirit Kite’, the science-fiction-sounding system involves a 30cm-squared slim box fitted to the car’s roof, which can deploy a drone to be your car's shadow. This isn’t just a case of having a drone landing pad on the back of the motor. There’s been some serious integration, so the drone can soar, track the car and re-dock safely while you cruise (albeit up to 15mph). During that time, the gizmo transmits images in real-time to the vehicle’s central display. Yep, comfortably ensconced away from the rain, or in the luxury of air-con, drivers use the car's touchscreen to snap stills, hit pause/stop/record and/or share footage, enabling a one-person/one-camera/one-car filming job. #fangchengbao #byd #dji #offroad #tesla #toyota

About Car

A car, or an automobile, is a motor vehicle with wheels. Most definitions of cars state that they run primarily on roads, seat 1-8 people, have four wheels, and mainly transport people rather than cargo. There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808. The mode...

About This Footage

The BYD & DJI Drone System clip has piqued the interest of enthusiasts with its innovative integration of drone technology into a vehicle-mounted system. The Lingyuan, as it's called, is an intriguing example of how manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation.

One of the most notable aspects of this footage is the seamless integration of the drone system with the car itself. The 30cm-squared slim box fitted to the roof of the vehicle can deploy a drone that not only tracks the car but also re-docks safely while in motion. This level of sophistication is impressive, especially considering the system's affordability at just $2,200 USD.

The Lingyuan's capabilities extend beyond mere convenience; it offers a unique solution for capturing footage on-the-go. Drivers can use the car's touchscreen to control the drone, snapping stills, hitting pause/stop/record, and sharing footage in real-time. This eliminates the need for multiple cameras or personnel, making it an attractive option for content creators.

The partnership between BYD and DJI is also noteworthy. While DJI is well-known for its drone technology, BYD's involvement brings a new dimension to the collaboration. As a car manufacturer with over 1.6 billion vehicles in use worldwide, BYD's expertise in automotive design and engineering has likely played a significant role in developing the Lingyuan.

The clip also highlights the growing trend of integrating drone technology into various industries. In this case, it's the automotive sector, where manufacturers are exploring ways to enhance user experience, safety, and convenience. The Lingyuan is an innovative solution that addresses these needs while providing a unique feature set for car owners.

While some might see this as a gimmick or a novelty, the BYD & DJI Drone System clip showcases a serious attempt at innovation. It's not just about having a drone attached to a car; it's about creating a comprehensive system that integrates seamlessly with the vehicle. The Lingyuan's capabilities and affordability make it an attractive option for those looking to capture high-quality footage on-the-go.

The fact that this technology is being developed in partnership between BYD and DJI suggests that we can expect more innovative solutions from these companies in the future. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how manufacturers incorporate drone technology into their products. The BYD & DJI Drone System clip is a fascinating glimpse into this emerging trend, and one that's sure to capture the attention of enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
