Introducing the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe! It’s the 4 door edition of the 4 Series, and Mat’s on hand to see if this ‘coupe’ 4-door has enough to convince you to spend a bit extra and choose it instead of the 3 Series! Starting with the exterior design, as you’d expect there’s a sloping roof from the back seats through to the rear, and a number of minor (yet oh-so-good) features that stand it out compared to the 3 Series, such as frameless door windows at the back! Otherwise, the design is largely reminiscent of the regular 4 Series. Under the bonnet, it’s no surprise that there isn’t much to separate either car. If you get your hands on the M440i edition, as we have here, you’ll find a 3-litre turbo straight-six under the bonnet that can deliver 374hp. So there’s no denying it looks great, and the performance is more than adequate, but should you really choose one when the starting price is £9,000 more than what you’d pay for an entry-level 3 Series?! You’d better stick with Mat and find out for yourself!
