About This Footage

The Delage D12, a hypercar born from the rich heritage of French luxury automobile and racecar company Delage, has made its world debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This footage is notable for several reasons, not least because it marks the return to production of a legendary brand that had been dormant since 1953.

The Delage D12 itself is an impressive machine, boasting a 7.6-litre V12 hybrid powerplant producing a staggering 1100 horsepower. The sheer scale and complexity of this engine are a testament to the engineering prowess of Delage Automobiles, which has clearly taken its time to get things right. The fact that it's a hybrid unit is also noteworthy, as it suggests that Delage is taking a forward-thinking approach to performance.

The footage itself is engaging, if somewhat brief at 3:26 minutes long. We see the car being showcased on the Goodwood Festival of Speed grounds, its sleek design and aggressive stance making an instant impression. The camerawork is decent, capturing the car's lines and details without feeling overly intrusive or flashy. It's clear that the uploader, GUMBAL, has a keen eye for automotive photography.

What's also interesting is the context in which this footage was captured. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the premier events on the global motoring calendar, attracting enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. To debut a new hypercar at such an event is a bold move, and it suggests that Delage Automobiles is serious about making a statement.

The return of Delage to production is also significant because it marks a revival of sorts for French luxury car manufacturing. With the likes of Bugatti and Koenigsegg pushing the boundaries of performance and exclusivity, there's clearly a market for high-end hypercars that are both rare and desirable. The fact that Delage has chosen to re-enter this fray suggests that it believes it can compete with the best in the business.

Of course, one must also consider the broader implications of Delage's return. With a price tag reportedly in excess of $2.3 million, the D12 is an ultra-exclusive vehicle that will likely appeal only to a select few. Nevertheless, its existence serves as a reminder that there are still manufacturers out there pushing the boundaries of what's possible with internal combustion engines.

In conclusion, this footage is notable for several reasons: it marks the world debut of a new hypercar from a legendary French brand; showcases an impressive engine and design; and highlights the return to production of Delage Automobiles. While we may not see many D12s on public roads, its existence serves as a reminder that innovation and exclusivity are still alive and well in the world of high-performance motoring.
