(19 Aug 2019) LEAD IN Uber luxury cars and rare vehicles designed for the super rich are on show at Monterey Car Week in California. The annual event is one of the hottest tickets in town, with some 200 exotic vehicles on show. STORY-LINE Electricity is in the air...and in the cars...at the premiere, annual, luxury auto event in California. The Quail Motorsports Gathering is held as part of Monterey Car Week along the scenic Central California Coast. The world's top manufacturers use the picturesque venue to unveil some of the wildest, rarest and most expensive cars on the planet. This year supercar makers are debuting several electric vehicles...as high-end automobile lovers shift their attention to more eco-conscious cars. Lotus' Evija makes its first public appearance, billed as the first British electric supercar and "the most powerful series car ever made". With two thousand horsepower and a zero-to-60 miles per hour acceleration of less than three seconds, Evija impresses but doesn't come cheap. Lotus estimates that the car will cost two million dollars when it goes on sale next year. Only 130 will be made. "It will be, when it goes into production next year, it will be the most powerful production car in the world. It's all electric. It's a beautiful car. We actually say it's utterly carved by air, in terms of the way the air flows through the car to create the down force and to reduce drag. It obviously helps to give the performance. We've made a real design feature of it so it is a beautiful hypercar," says Lotus CEO, Phil Popham. Move over Tesla, another Silicon Valley electric car company is showing off its newest super coupe at the event. Upstart Drako Motors have unveiled its new electric GTE, which will be available next year with a one million dollar price tag. Drako says the GTE is the rare combination of a super sleek design which can also comfortably accommodate four passengers and their luggage. "It is our rendition of the modern supercar. For us, it was very important to have a usable car. So what you see here is actually a grand coupe that can seat four people and carry their luggage. One of the key things about electric cars is usability and that's what we wanted to give you," says Shiv Sikand, Drako Motors Executive Vice President. Bentley, celebrating its one hundredth anniversary this year, gave a glimpse of the classic car company's future. The all-electric EXP 100 GT features an autonomous design, which gives the driver the choice to take control of the powerful vehicle...or relax in its lush interior and let the car do the driving. "We just didn't buy into the future of sustainable electric vehicles needs to be cold or needs to be unemotional. So that's why our vision is still based on our heritage and our DNA of emotional, beautiful journeys connected to first class travel," says Brett Boydell, Bentley Head of Interior Design. Although the EXP 100 GT is a concept car, Bentley says they're aiming to have it on the road for real by the year 2030. Meanwhile, to commemorate its 110th anniversary, Bugatti revealed its most powerful supercar yet, the ten million dollar Centodieci. With 16 hundred horsepower from an 8-liter engine, it has a top speed of nearly 240 miles per hour. But if you have the need for that kind of speed, it's already too late. Bugatti is only making ten Centodiecis, each costing a whopping ten million dollars, and they're already sold out. Even mid-range car manufacturers wanted to get in on The Quail excitement this year. Acura introduced it's Type S concept car at the event. Montery Car Week ran from 9-18 August 2019. About Car

A car, or an automobile, is a motor vehicle with wheels. Most definitions of cars state that they run primarily on roads, seat 1-8 people, have four wheels, and mainly transport people rather than cargo. There are over 1.6 billion cars in use worldwide as of 2025. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808. The mode...
