1992 February 12 @ 14 - Jean Alesi & Ivan Capelli test Ferrari F92A @ Estoril
(From: Autosport, 20 February 1992) Cautious optimism at Ferrari The radical Ferrari F92A performed promisingly at Estoril last week, with Jean Alesi and Ivan Capelli having their first full taste of the revolutionary device. The Ferrari team mangement turned up in force with Claudio Lombardi, Niki Lauda, Harvey Postlethwaite, Sante Ghedini and Jean-Claude Migeot all present. The first day(12) of the testing was washed out by rain, but the second(13) was warm and sunny and Alesi made the most of the conditions as he worked his way down to a best lap, on race rubber, which was only a 10th shy of his qualifying time for last year's Portuguese Grand Prix. 'The car is very sensitive to the alteration we make,' said Jean. 'Estoril has quite a rough surface, but the car behaves excellently and in the two high-speed corners it is really spectacular.' By the end of the day Alesi had done 56 laps with a best time of 1m14.70s. 'We have not come here to set times but rather to get track time and experience with the car,' said Alesi. Capelli, who spent the first day in a 643 chassis, took over the new car the following morning, making adjustments for himself in the chassis. His best time was 1m17.12s. Alesi then tried a race distance test but was stopped after 37 laps by the track closing. As the Autosport article didn't mention the exact day, I confirm them with these two article: -L'UNITÀ (1992-02-14): https://archivio.unita.news/assets/main/1992/02/14/page_029.pdf -La Stampa (1992-02-15): https://archive.org/details/lastampa_1992-02-15/page/n25/mode/2up #f1 #retrof1 #f1testing
