Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212 driving in extreme cold conditions – how does it handle? This is a 2010 model with the E350 OM642 engine and 250,000 kilometers on the clock. These temperatures are quite normal here during the winter; some days it can drop as low as -40°C, though that’s not too common. Overall, this car performs extremely well and remains reliable in such cold conditions. After years of driving Mercedes diesels here, I’ve noticed that while the car handles the cold impressively, there are still some effects, like stiffer steering, a firmer suspension, and a generally harsher ride in extreme temperatures. However, this is something that applies to most cars in such conditions.
